Setup for the gold and silver electrolysis.
« on: November 29, 2010, 02:24:45 pm »
This is my setup for the gold and silver electrolysis.
The holders for the electrodes and the stirrer are two "Third-Hand" Tools for soldering.

Edited by Kephra to add that photos are no longer available.

The stirrer is a cheap 12V electric motor with a
with shrink tubing attached bent glass rod.

Looks like you made some perfect product with that rig Heino.  Do you use your 6ma constant current supply for CG too?

No, here I use a power supply with 37V. The current is about 250mA.
With your recipe. But with a few drops of peroxide.

But I prefer the HVAC-method. The CG is more clear
and contains, besides gold,  only a small amount of sodium citrate to stabilize.

HVAC left,  electrolysis right. In transmitted light and reflected light.

The chemical reduction method, I have not tested.
How it looks in reflected light? (after a few days)

Heino,
The sample on the right showing reflected light looks like what I get when I use too much peroxide.  I discard samples like that.  The high voltage samples on the left are perfect.

For the electrolysis, i use 3 drops of H2O2 (3%).
Without it does not work for me.
The turbidity in the reflected light arises only after a time > 24 hours.
Otherwise it remains stable for months and keep the ruby red.

The HVAC - CG is always clear. But, in a too small quantity of Citrate (as stabilizer) it tilts after a month to blue.
Now, with 2 ml of citrate (1%), it stays red and clear (> 3 months)

wemast,

I think you would do better if you use corn syrup instead of peroxide.

Hello
It's very interesting, I'll try it. I still use potassium citrate instead of sodium citrate .... do you think it could affect anything?
I will share my results
Thank you

wemast,

Sodium and Potassium citrate are interchangeable in the chemistry as long as you account for the weight difference.  Sodium has an atomic weight of 23 and potassium 40, so you have to use more potassium citrate by weight to get the same number of molecules.

1.62 grams of potassium citrate is the same number of molecules as 1.47 grams of sodium citrate if you are using the stock solutions I gave somewhere else.  Potassium citrate is hygroscopic, it absorbs moisture from the air; which may make it even heavier.

Hello!
I understand now, and I did my homework!    The quality of the picture is not good but the color is like "crystal" with corn syrup.
Thank you for your guidance

Does anyone have a link or reference on how to build a HVAC generator (to make CG)?
I thought I read a post about it on this forum, but I can't seem to find it now.

Cheers
